Prayer

Reality

•    I’m pulled in so many directions. My attention is fragmented.

•    I often move through entire parts of my day without awareness of God’s presence.

•    I’m frequently in a hurry. Screens, pressure and constant input is making a quiet prayer life seem impossible.

•    I treat prayer as a quick statement or request to God and often as a reaction or response to stress.

•    My nervous system becomes so activated that stillness feels uncomfortable and difficult.

•    I carry guilt because my prayer life isn’t as peaceful or steady as I’d like.

•    When life or situations are overwhelming, I tend to react quickly and stressfully rather than remain prayerfully grounded.

•    I think that I live in emotional intensity more than spiritual intimacy.

•    My mind often wanders during prayer and it’s discouraging.

•    Sometimes I feel disconnected from God though I still love Him.

•    There is part of me that desires to live in peace. There is another part of me that is attached to hurry and stimulation.

•    I have this expectation to live with a near perfect spiritual focus instead of simply returning to God over & over again.

Anchored Truth

•    “I don’t have to carry everything myself. I can hold people, concerns & situations prayerfully before God throughout my day.”

•    “Prayer is more than speaking, it’s a lifestyle of turning toward You.”

•    “Repetitive anxious reactions bear no fruit. I remain open to Your wisdom, timing and peace.”

•    “I can carry prayer within me like a small living flame.”

•    “Chaos can demand my attention but I choose to gently turn to You, Jesus.”

•    “The goal is not spiritual performance. The goal is communion.”
