God’s Promises, Desires & Truth
Scriptural Basis for this section: Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
As you read these scriptures then ask yourself, If this is God’s nature or if He promises these things then:
- How should it influence my current choice or decision?
- What type of impact should it have on my cravings and desires? What is the fruit of obeying this truth or promise?
- Should this truth be leading me to transformation, and if so, then how am I different?
- Am I working this truth or promise into my life through repetition in such a way that it becomes intertwined with my very nature and character?
- How often am I revisiting this truth and promise so that it is always fresh and alive in me?
- What is the opposite of this truth or promise? What does the world say about these things or what is the way of the flesh in this matter? How is that different from what God desires or His nature? What is the fruit of not following this truth or promise?
When considering God’s truth over the worldly idea of truth remember Psalm 12:6:
The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.
There is no contamination in the words of our Lord. The wisdom of the world is full of half truths and contamination.
Example:
James 1:17
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
Questions:
- Since God is giving good and perfect gifts then……(ask questions from above)
- Since God is the Father of lights then……
- Since God is rock steady without variation then……
- Since God exercises His will to bring birth by truth then……
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
- If I am tasting & seeing then……
- If I am steadily taking refuge in Him and therefore blessed then……
Psalm 84:11
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord gives grace and glory;
He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity.
Isaiah 40: 28-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives strength to the weary,
And to the one who lacks might He increases power.
30 Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
31 Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

Proverbs 3: 5-8
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

8 It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.
