Why have you forsaken me?

So today I’m driving along in the car, traversing through the winding path of my thoughts about the goodness and authentic nature of the Lord and I began to ponder the connection between Jesus and the Father.  For some reason it hit me in, may I say, a “fresh” way?  Jesus very existence, His very breath to breath was all wrapped up in being connected with and displaying the glory of His Father in all that He did.  His path every day was filled with the presence of His Father.  I see this image in my head of beautiful trees and big rocks along a diverse path of hills and valleys that Jesus walked with anticipation looking for His Father in every possible instance.  There was such a fiercely strong and intimate connection with His Father that it defined His very existence.  I know your probably going…..ugh yeah?!  But as I thought on how strongly Jesus convictions were as He walked the earth teaching, loving, healing hearts, disciplining, mentoring and all for the purpose, wrapped up in His heart cry throughout John 17, it just gripped me so strongly.  As He hung on the cross, bearing OUR sin, and God had to turn away, the immense sorrow Jesus felt from that moment of separation with His Father.  Through all eternity He has been one with the Father, they have known a level of love, a depth of connection, a richness of relationship that we struggle to grasp.  Jesus left His throne, left His place in the trinity (ultimately to return of course) to reach out, to love us, to bring us into what He has known with His Father for all eternity.  Can you feel the depth of what has to be going on in you to express that kind of love?  Just a little taste?  It’s truly beyond the thoughts and ways of our world.  To be so enjoined with His Father and then to have that ripped away as you bear the sins of the world.  The picture that comes to my mind is a face filled with agony and shock, but underlined with determination, love and purpose.

We so easily get wrapped up in what we want, don’t we?  Our flesh makes demands and we just give in time after time and hardly give it a second thought.  Pulling from those same old coping mechanisms, reaching for the same old tools we’ve been using our whole lives. Maybe we feel guilt, maybe we don’t but either way we just keep trucking along making the same decisions.  Doesn’t quite compare to the life sustaining connection Jesus had / has with the Father, does it?  Ask yourself, do you love Him more?  Are you willing to lay down the wordly thoughts and lusts of the flesh and completely surrender and submit to Him as your Lord?  It is a way of life that we who desire to follow Christ must embrace.  There is such freedom and life that begin to blossom in us as we realize we don’t have to win the argument.  We don’t have to dance through life and relationships utilizing a myriad of techniques and methods that are filled with anxiousness on the inside but coated with a micro thin layer of fabricated peace on the outside.  Simply lay down all that you are and be filled with all that He is.  He is the giver of the peace within that sustains no matter what storm is raging on the outside.  Yes, life will always be messy, but there is no better foundation than Christ  ~~  This is where life worth living truly begins.
